Episode 01+ online!

January 12th, 2008

While we were making episode 01, we asked Satoshi about 2 events that he organizes each year.

My Famicase Exhibition invites a bunch of artsy-types to design a Famicom cart label for a game that does not exist, and Fami-mode, a retro game-themed post-New Years party.

The next Fami-mode is just around the corner on January 26, 2008! For more info and tickets (almost sold out!) go here.

Check out the episode guide for more info about all the artists!

Episode 02 online!

November 24th, 2007

We took a trip down to Kyoto and Osaka last month to shoot a few stories, and here’s the first one.

Dylan Cuthbert, president of Kyoto-based Q-Games, has worked on a lot of cutting edge games and game technology. We sat down with him to hear about how he ended up in Japan, and some of the projects he worked on in the early 90’s. For more info check the episode guide.

Update: Sorry about the sound problems some of you are experiencing. We’ll try to get that fixed.

Disco Space Invader

November 10th, 2007

I managed to score my copy of the Disco Space Invader 7″ that Satoshi from METEOR showed us in Points01. The name of the group is “Funny Stuff.” I’ve been trying to get more info on this, but it’s going to take some more research. BTW, the B-side is called “Dancing Cats.” Amazing.

Mp3’s

1. Disco Space Invader (96k)
2. Dancing Cats (96k)

or download both tracks at better quality via this torrent.

Lyrics

A. Disco Spacer Invader

Let’s all together do space Invader
Let’s all together do space Invader
Let’s all together do space Invader
Let’s all together Ha

Shoot, shoot, shoot, shoot…………

B. Dancing Cats

Pretty baby dancing cats
Pretty baby dancing cats

Crazy baby dancing cats
Crazy baby dancing cats

Great stuff.

Earlier this year I shot a video documenting the temporary Nintendo Museum at Osaka’s Hankyu Department store. It’s kind of a pilot for the Points series so I thought I’d add it to the Points blog.

The interesting thing about this museum is that it was put together without Nintendo’s help. Everything in the video belongs to Isao Yamazaki, a Nintendo collector and a super nice guy. Hopefully I’ll be able to get him for a much more in-depth interview and another look at his collection.

And for those of you that have been asking about music, the 3 tracks featured in this video are now available for download over at the 6955 site. Enjoy!

Episode 01 Online!

September 29th, 2007

The next episode of Points is online as part of “The Not The 1up Show.” In this episode, we visited 2 fantastic little shops in Tokyo’s west side. Episode guide here.

There’s a bit of a problem with aspect ratio at the moment, but I’m told it’s being fixed. Hopefully they’ll put it up separately as well….

UPDATE: Things got fixed, and Points01 is now up on its own!

8-Bit Cafe shirts

September 27th, 2007

delta8-bit.jpg

I went over to 8-Bit Cafe with fellow Torontonians Jon (Everyday Shooter), Raigan and Mare (N+) for some relaxing post-TGS drinks. The games they’ve been working on kick some serious ass, so be sure to check their sites and get the games when they become avaliable!

I also caught up with the cafe owners (Nawo and Kojo), who told me they had quite a few new customers who had seen the cafe in Points00. I’m glad to hear that some of you could stop by! What did you think of the place? Did any of you get a chance to visit 16 Shots as well?

The cafe has recently started selling some deadly cool shirts designed by the fine peeps at deltatune in Osaka. I scored one and I love it. There are a couple other designs as well, I’ll have to get pics of those too. The shirts come in only XS, S, and M sizes for now…hopefully they’ll print some larger sizes the future!

In other news, the next episode of Points has been done for a few weeks now, and it looks like it will go online very soon! We’re also in pre-production for the next few episodes right now…which reminds me that I need to clear some space on my harddrive.
